Each August, 90,000-plus people pour out of Sydney’s CBD for City2Surf — the world’s largest fun run. The iconic 14-kilometre course sweeps through the eastern suburbs, up the infamous Heartbreak Hill, and finishes on the grass above Bondi Beach. Elites, costumed groups, charity runners and families all share the road. City2Surf 2026 is on Sunday 9 August 2026.
Running (or watching)
Entry is ticketed and closes when full — register early through the official site. Not running? The course is a brilliant spectator event: line the route through Rose Bay or cheer the finish at Bondi. Roads close across the east, so plan transport and use trains and buses.
Around the finish
The Bondi finish line sits above the Icebergs pool and the coastal walk — a perfect post-run reward. More things to do around Sydney’s beaches.
