Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is one of the largest and most joyous LGBTQIA+ celebrations on earth — a festival of parties, art, sport and community that builds to the spectacular night parade down Oxford Street. The 2027 festival runs 20 February to 7 March 2027, with the headline parade on Saturday 6 March.
The parade and beyond
The parade — thousands of marchers, floats and dancers under the lights — draws hundreds of thousands to Oxford and Flinders Streets; free viewing spots along the route fill hours ahead, with ticketed grandstands for guaranteed sightlines. The wider festival spans Fair Day in Victoria Park, harbour parties, film, and community events across the city.
Planning it
It’s all in inner Sydney — take public transport, as the parade closes roads and packs the trains. Whether you march, watch or party, book accommodation early; Mardi Gras is peak season. More photography spots and things to do around the city.
