The Sydney Marathon is one of the fastest-growing running events in the world — it was elevated to the Abbott World Marathon Majors in November 2024 and ran its first race in that series in August 2025, putting it alongside London, Boston, New York, Chicago, Berlin and Tokyo.
What to Expect
- Full marathon, 10K and 4.2km event distances
- Point-to-point course starting in North Sydney, crossing the Harbour Bridge, and finishing at the Sydney Opera House
- Held in late August, moved earlier from its previous mid-September date since 2025
- Road closures across the course on race day — check the official route map if you’re driving
Because it’s now a World Marathon Major, places fill quickly and international interest has grown sharply since 2025 — register early if you want to run it.
Location
Starts in North Sydney, finishes at the Sydney Opera House.
