Glamping’s second act in Mudgee is the dome, and Hideaway Domes at Grattai does it as well as anyone — geodesic domes on a quiet hillside off Hill End Road, each with a wall of triangle windows aimed at the night sky. A perfect 5.0 rating across 45 Google reviews agrees.

The setting
Inside the domes it is all comfort — king bed, wood fire, proper kitchenette and a lounge under the star window. Outside: hills, roos and the kind of western-slopes darkness that turns the Milky Way up to full brightness.
Around Mudgee
Mudgee’s cellar doors and restaurants are about twenty minutes east, and the road the other way runs to Hill End’s gold-rush ghost streetscape — one of the best-preserved in NSW — via Hargraves.
