Drop off the back of Blackheath into the Kanimbla Valley and the Blue Mountains go quiet — farmland, escarpment walls and almost no traffic. Mt Kanimbla Retreats has planted a handful of luxury cabins here, each aimed at the view, and guests rate them 4.9 stars across 123 reviews.

The cabins
These are the romantic-weekend variety: carved stone baths at picture windows, plunge pools on the deck, fireplaces and big beds. The valley does sunrise and the escarpment does sunset, and there is very little to do in between — deliberately.
Around the valley
The Megalong Valley’s tearooms and horse country are the next fold over, and Blackheath’s cafes and Grose Valley lookouts are about 25 minutes back up the hill — see our Blue Mountains guide for the full hit list.
