Berry has perfected the country-town weekend. One heritage main street under big old trees, stacked with cafes, boutiques, antique barns and a pub on each end — with surf beaches ten minutes east and Kangaroo Valley over the mountain to the west. You don’t so much do things in Berry as settle into it.
The main street ritual
Start with coffee, drift through the boutiques and antique stores, and accept that you will end up in the queue at the Berry Donut Van — a cinnamon-sugar institution that has been frying by the highway for generations. If your visit lands on a market weekend, the showground fills with local produce and makers.
Beaches and green hills
Berry sits on the flats beneath a rainforest escarpment, and the surrounding dairy country is some of the prettiest in NSW. Seven Mile Beach runs long and empty just down the road, and the headland walks at Gerringong and Gerroa — with winter whales passing close — are 15 minutes north.
Day-trip central
Few bases work harder: Kangaroo Valley and its waterfalls are 25 minutes away, Jervis Bay’s white sand is half an hour south, and the Cambewarra Lookout drive loops both. Come Sunday you’ll have covered mountains, dairy flats and ocean without ever driving more than 40 minutes.
