Most waterfalls you look at; Crystal Shower Falls you get inside. Deep in Dorrigo National Park’s World Heritage rainforest, the Wonga Walk slips into a rock cavern behind the falls, and suddenly you’re watching the forest through a falling curtain of silver water.
The walk in
Start at the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre — worth time in itself for the Skywalk jutting over the forest canopy — and descend the sealed Wonga Walk through strangler figs, buttressed trunks and birdsong. The falls arrive after roughly an hour of easy downhill, announced by a suspension bridge slung across the creek below the drop.
Behind the curtain
The track curls off the bridge and into the cavern, a natural overhang worn behind the waterfall. After rain the curtain thickens and drums on the pool; in gentler flow it drifts like gauze and rainbows flicker where light cuts the spray. It is, by some distance, the most atmospheric waterfall moment on Waterfall Way.
Know before you go
Entry is free (the Rainforest Centre suggests a small donation) and the track is well-formed the whole way — allow two to three hours return, remembering the walk out is uphill. Pair it with Dangar Falls two minutes from Dorrigo town, and the cafes of Bellingen down the mountain. This is Gondwana rainforest, part of a World Heritage Area — stay on track and leave it exactly as found. Details correct at the time of writing (July 2026).
