Katoomba Falls is the Blue Mountains’ most-seen, least-visited waterfall. Millions glimpse it from the Scenic Skyway or Echo Point as a white thread on the cliff line — but stand at its own lookouts, a few minutes’ walk from Katoomba Falls Reserve, and it becomes the centrepiece of one of the great valley views in Australia.
The setting
Kedumba Creek slides out of the tourist heart of Katoomba and steps off the escarpment in a series of drops totalling well over 100 metres, straight into the blue-hazed bowl of the Jamison Valley. Mount Solitary anchors the horizon, Orphan Rock stands off to the side, and in the late afternoon the amber cliffs light up around the falls.
The walk
From the reserve on Cliff Drive — kiosk, picnic lawns, easy parking — a signposted track loops past the upper cascade and out to cliff-edge lookouts including Juliets Balcony, joining the Prince Henry Cliff Walk toward Echo Point. Under an hour covers it; linking on to Echo Point makes a superb one-way walk of about 40 minutes with falls, cliffs and Three Sisters in one pass.
Know before you go
Entry is free. This corner of Katoomba gets busy around Scenic World mid-morning to mid-afternoon; early and late are calmer and better lit. Combine with Leura Cascades ten minutes away for a two-waterfall afternoon. Details correct at the time of writing (July 2026).
