Leura Cascades trades scale for sheer prettiness. Instead of one big drop, Leura Falls Creek steps down through a shaded gully in a long staircase of small falls, each pooling under tree ferns before spilling to the next. The track runs right beside the water, which is exactly how this waterfall is meant to be enjoyed.
The gully walk
From the picnic area off Cliff Drive, the path descends into the gully and simply follows the creek — bridges, mossy steps, ferns arching overhead. The main circuit takes 30 to 45 unhurried minutes. Walkers wanting more can join the Prince Henry Cliff Walk and continue toward Echo Point or Gordon Falls, collecting Jamison Valley lookouts on the way.
A photographer’s creek
This is the Blue Mountains’ most reliable slow-shutter location: even in modest flow the stepped falls stack beautifully, and the gully’s soft light suits long exposures at any hour. After rain the cascades link into a single silver chain down the hillside.
Know before you go
Entry is free. Parking near the picnic area is tight on weekends — come early, or walk in along the cliff track from Katoomba Falls, ten minutes up the road. Further down the same creek, the water eventually leaps the escarpment as Bridal Veil (Leura) Falls, visible from lookouts below Leura. Details correct at the time of writing (July 2026).
