When the weather turns or couples want old-world grandeur, Sydney’s photographers head for the Queen Victoria Building. The 1898 Romanesque arcade fills a whole city block with stained-glass windows, mosaic floors, mahogany shopfronts, wrought-iron balustrades and the great glass dome — a backdrop closer to Milan than the Pacific.

The grand staircase at the southern end is the hero: couples on the landing, dome above, three levels of arches receding behind. The upper-gallery walkways give symmetrical leading lines, and the Royal Clock drops a burst of colour on the hour. Early morning — just after doors open — is the only quiet window.
Permissions
The QVB is privately managed; tripods, lighting kits and formal wedding shoots require prior written permission from building management (small fee, easy to arrange). Handheld, low-key sessions are usually tolerated outside busy hours, but ask first. Pair the interior with the sandstone of nearby Martin Place, then browse more photography spots across NSW.
